| Thousands
of microfinance institutions serve tens of millions of poor
people in developing countries. Microcredit -- very small
loans -- offers life-changing potential for the people who

banking sector. While not a miracle solution to ending global
poverty, successful microfinance makes vulnerable segments
of the global population more resilient against periods of
shortage or disaster. IPS reports on the effects of these
investments and the individuals who are trying to work their
way out of poverty.
