The flagship World Service of the agency covers over 150 countries. The service is produced in English and Spanish. The daily output is around 20 news features and news analyses. Selected stories are translated into Arabic, Turkish, French, German, Italian, Finnish, Dutch, Swedish, Portuguese, Japanese, Thai, Nepali, Hindi, Tamil, Indonesian and Kiswahili.
IPS focuses on the developing regions of the globe, but within the context of globalisation and its impacts. IPS journalists write about economy, politics and social and cultural affairs. Development, environment, health, education, migration, human rights, democratisation, international co-operation and minorities are priority issues.
Stories are written and edited from the perspective of the developing world. The overwhelming majority of the contributing journalists and editors are from developing countries, including those reporting from Europe, North America and Japan. IPS provides contextualised stories that focus less on specific news events than on the processes, institutions and trends in order to make those events understandable to readers.
Thousands of newspapers and news sites run stories from the world service of IPS. They receive the daily feed via ftp, rss or e-mail or access exclusive content via password protected webpages.
